Camping and Hike to Pantoneys Crown


Overview

We are finally less than a week away from a long awaited Pantoneys Crown climb, we have been planning to conquer it for more than a year. Pantoneys is world’s second largest Canyon and world’s widest one, terrain is hard and only for advanced hikers but the view and the hike is breathtaking.

Please make sure you read Sydhikers Hike Disclaimer before you join the hike. Please don’t join the hike if you disagree any part of it or are not willing to read it.

Departure

We must leave at 4AM sharp from Sydney as we have permission to start climb at no later than 8AM. Carpool planning will be done in coming days and everyone’s pick up will be arranged accordingly.

First Meetup (Coffee Break)

We all need to meet at McDonalds Blaxland at Great Western Highway A32 for a short coffee break and first meetup. We need to make sure we don’t spend more than 15 minutes.

Campsite Arrival

To arrive at Dalli’s campground, 1570 Glen Davis Road, Capertee at 7AM sharp. After arriving, the team which is planning the summit will pack up and leave within 30 minutes. The team which is staying will stay, put up the camps and do a shorter hike nearby.

Leave for Summit at 7:30AM Sharp.

Pantoneys Hike Plan

Pantoneys is a super hard track so only the experts are recommended to climb up, rest to stay back and enjoy at the campsite and do a shorter hike. The summit team will depart in cars to Dominic’s Property at 7:30AM sharp. We have taken permissions for 8PM and we are advised not to be any late so we will start the hike from Dominic’s private property at 8AM.

High Level Hike plan is below.

08:15   0.0 km  Start the hike
10:30   4.0 km  Stop at a cave for snack / tea break

10:45   4.0 km  Resume Hike with fresh energies
12:30   4.8 km  At Peak of Pantoneys Crown

Enjoy the view and explore both South and North ends of the summit (1 hour) and have Lunch.

01:45   8 km  Start to climb down
02:30   7.6 km  Afternoon tea / snack break

02:50   7.7 km  Start the hike again
03:45  11.8 km  End at Dominic’s private property

The Fun Night

We will be back at the Campsite around 4:45PM so the fun will start. We will have the fires going and start the BBQ. Then the songs, stories, jokes and all the fun activities. Once we are tired we can go to sleep.

Make sure everyone makes their tent while dinner is being prepared.

A yummy BBQ dinner to be served at around 8PM alongside the Bonfire.

Next Day (20th June)

Wake up at 6AM next day and prepare the Breakfast. Finish your breakfast by 8AM and have everything packed up and ready for the departure to the Baalbone Gap short hike.

Next day we will start and do the Baalbone gap hike and get free 12PM.

Be back at Sydney 2:30PM

Special Notes

  • There are no toilets on the trail so make sure you do your business before the hike starts.
  • Bring enough food (fruits, energy bars, snacks etc) and at least 3 litre water per person.
  • Nights will be cold so make sure you have proper cloths and shoes. And bring spare cloths.
  • Wear sturdy shoes as the rocks might be slippery.
  • Strictly no littering (organic or non organic), keep all your garbage with you and bring it back.
  • Respect Social Distancing.
  • Keep organizers informed if we need to detour or leave the group for some other hike.
